The radio operator's compartment was located just behind the bomb bay. The radio operator was in charge of all radios and assisted the navigator in taking radio position fixes. The radio operator was also trained as a gunner and manned a flexible .50 caliber machine gun (removed from aircraft) out the top of his compartment.
