Silo Level 7

This view looks across the interior of the launch duct. The access door is at left. All work platforms are down. Chain guard rails enclose and opening in the floor to accommodate engine thrust chambers. The engine has been removed from the missile and is on display topside at the museum.

Looking up slightly one sees the thrust mount—a large silver ring on which the missile rests. The thrust mount is suspended in the silo by four large spring assemblies. Horizontal and vertical dampers permit the missile to ride out the shock wave of a nuclear attack or earthquake.
