This machinery is used to lower or hoist the main 6,800 lb mushroom anchor and the spare 5,000 lb navy anchor. The Windlass consists of a gear box driven by the vertical motor in the background. The two shafts connected to the gearbox drive the capstan on the main deck above. The large pipe to the left of the Windlass conveys the chain from the main deck down into the anchor chain lockers below.
Mounted on the forward bulkhead is a portable submersible pump used for emergency dewatering of compartments.
