Engine Room - Auxiliary Pump Engines

The forward section of the engine room is the location of two De Laval two-stage centrifugal pumps (1,500 g.p.m. at 150 p.s.i.) that serve as the auxiliary pumps for Fireboat 4.

Each of these pumps are driven by a 440 h.p., six-cylinder Caterpillar 3406 diesel engine. These pumps provide additional volume and pressure to the fire mains and are the primary source of pressure to the Maneuvering Jets.

On the forward end of the starboard Auxiliary Pump Engine is a General Electric 50 k.w., 240 v., three phase generator. This unit provides electric power whenever shoreline power is unavailable. It is also used as a back up to the Main Generator.
